Colorado Survives
Lions’ Late Rally;
Miami (FL) Game Cancelled

Boulder, CO (March 13, 2010) - Friday night’s game between
the University of Colorado and Lindenwood University was a shining example of
the phrase “It ain’t over til it’s over.” With less than 2 minutes left to play
in the game, the Buffaloes were up by a four goal margin, but ended up only by
one at the buzzer. Final score 10-9 Colorado.
Andrew Peterson opened up the scoring for the Lions early in
the first quarter, helping establish a three goal lead entering the second
quarter and out-shooting Colorado by a 2:1 margin. Peterson would go on to add another goal late
in the 4th. Colorado would
begin their comeback in the waning minutes of the second quarter thanks to
Darren Hulick and Doug Lilburne, who
both scored two in the contest.
Defensively, the Buffs held the Lions’ offense to just 4 shots in the
quarter, only letting in one goal, but adding 2 tallies to levy the gap going
into halftime down a pair 5-3.
Minus a man up goal by Lindenwood early in the third, the
Buffaloes had all the momentum scoring 5 goals to take the lead and outshooting
the Lions 17 to 6. CU would add on two
more unanswered goals, and with time on their side Colorado looked like they
were going to walk away with a win. That
is until the final two minutes came ticking down. At the 1:32 mark came the first goal by
Lindenwood’s Gregory Cameron, only to be answered seconds later by attackman
Tyler Davis. That in turn was responded
by Andrew Peterson for his second of the night with under 10 seconds to play in
the game. It was only after a desperation
shot that sailed wide right at the end when Colorado could exhale from the fear
of collapsing a four goal lead.
The win moves Colorado above the .500 mark with a 2-1 record
for the season. They still remain 5th
in the RMLC Conference. Lindenwood
meanwhile falls to 4-4 but remain 3rd in the GRLC behind Indiana and
Illinois.
Colorado’s game scheduled against the Miami Hurricanes was
cancelled early Saturday morning due to complications. The game has yet to be rescheduled and
appears doubtful it will be made up.
Miami’s game against Lindenwood however is still scheduled to be played
Sunday afternoon.
