Colorado Holds Off Yellow Jackets
By: Scott Cunningham; Public Relations, CU Lacrosse

Atlanta, GA (March 27, 2009) - Following a disappointing road trip to Michigan two weeks ago, the Colorado Buffaloes have served up just what the doctor ordered by winning the first two games of a three-game southeastern swing.

After a solid 13-5 win over the University of Georgia on March 25th, the Buffs saw goals from seven players including four from A.J. Blackburn (Hun School/ Princeton, NJ) and fought off a
furious fourth quarter rally by Georgia Tech, holding on to a 10-8 victory on Friday night in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets were able to keep the game close in the first two periods, fighting to a 5-3 deficit at the end of the first half, then it looked as if the Buffaloes were headed for a second straight commanding victory. CU tallied 4 unanswered goals in the third quarter and would get the first goal of the fourth quarter to race to a 10-3 lead with over ten minutes to play.

A score from Georgia Tech’s Casey Timmerman (Dublin Coffman/ Dublin, OH) with less than nine minutes to play would start the Yellow Jackets off on a five-goal tear to make it a two-goal game. The Buffs bent in the final minutes but did not break and escaped with a much-needed 10-8 victory.

Colorado will face a tall order when they try to go 3-0 in the State of Georgia against the 6th ranked (by CollegeLax.us) Florida State Seminoles at Northview High School in Duluth, GA at 6pm on Saturday, March 28.
