Buffaloes Knock-off Unbeaten Lindenwood
By Scott Cunningham; CU Lacrosse Public Relations

Boulder, CO (April 9, 2009) - It feels like an eternity since the Buffs last played on their home turf in
Boulder. Since their last game in Colorado on March 10th, the team has toured the entire country from Michigan to Georgia to Utah. Almost one month to the day of their last home game, the 12th ranked Buffaloes (9-4, 3-0 RMLC) returned in style, handing the #9 Lindenwood Lions (10-1) their first defeat of the season in a convincing 9-4 victory.

The first quarter was all Buffs, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell from the scoreboard. After exchanging possessions for the first two minutes of the game, CU began what would be a 5-minute possession that would prove fruitless, as the Lion’s defense was up to the order and did not yield a decent shot opportunity. At the 7:34 mark in the first Lindenwood took advantage of one of CU’s few turnovers and scored the quarter’s only goal on a fast break.

The Buffs continued to wear down their opponents into the second quarter and the defense that bent in the first quarter finally broke for Lindenwood. The Buffs tied the game up two and a half minutes into the period on a score from Tyler Snyder (Arapahoe/ Centennial, CO), the first of three CU goals in less than two minutes, and Colorado would take a 3-1 lead into the half.

CU came out in the second half with the same pressure from the first two quarters, dominating time of possession, and the game would sit with Colorado leading 5-2 after the third. But in a game that was never as close as the score showed, the Buffs continued to keep the ball in the offensive zone and dominated time of possession for the remainder of the contest. CU netted four 4th quarter scores to put away their second top-ten opponent in as many weeks. Final Score: CU 9 Lind 4.

The first place Buffaloes continued to stay red-hot with their 5th win in their last six chances as they prepare to face Sonoma State on Tuesday at 7pm, April 14th at Kittredge Field. The team returns to conference play a week from Saturday in the anticipated match against CSU at Folsom Field.

Game Notes: CU held possession or kept it in the Lindenwood zone for nearly three quarters of the game, including almost 12 minutes in the first quarter alone…The Buffs saw goals from Tyler Snyder (2), AJ Blackburn (2), Josh Albrecht (1), Darren Hulick (2), Kyle Driver (1), and Marty Taffet (1)
