Another Victory for CU in Blowout Game against UNC By: Cortney Kesselman, Public Relations, CU Lacrosse
Boulder, CO (Feb. 14, 2009) - The University of Colorado Men’s Lacrosse team enjoyed a sweet victory in a Valentine’s Day scrimmage against Northern Colorado. CU hosted UNC at Kittridge field earlier today in a blowout game that allowed the Buffs to enjoy another pre-season win.
Within the first onset, the Bears controlled the play. An opening face-off win, a couple of hard-fought groundballs, and persistent play on the crease, challenged the Buffs, who's weak playing allowed UNC to find the first goal.
Eventually though, Colorado found their footing and got in the game. CU allowed UNC to enjoy their lead just briefly before tying it up. Moments later, a well-placed shot by Kyle Driver (Cherry Creek/ Centennial, CO) moved Colorado permanently ahead. CU came out of the first quarter on top at 5-1.
Each team scored once more during the rest of the first half. The Buffs played hard and fast, while great saves from goalie Kevin Moriarty (Seton Hall Prep/ Chatham, NJ) made scoring nearly impossible for the Bears. The first half ended with CU leading UNC at 6-2.
Colorado held nothing back as they kicked it into full gear during the second half. Within the first few minutes, the Buffaloes played great offense, as they took seven quick shots, while a strong defense kept shots from the Bears at a minimum. CU managed to stay ahead as they went into the final quarter at 12-4.
CU scored 6 more goals during the final quarter, as their offense continued to play exceptionally strong. While UNC knocked back one more with 2 seconds left on the clock, the Buffs pulled off the win with a final score 18-5.
With all three of CU’s pre-season scrimmages over, the team can now focus on getting ready for the 2009 season opener against Boston College on February 28.
