CU Wraps-Up Alumni Weekend

Boulder, CO (Oct. 4, 2008) Though the Buffs are no doubt still feeling the sting from a tough loss to CSU, they were at least able to forget about it for a day while they hosted a contingency of past Buffaloes for the annual alumni game on Saturday.
It was an impressive turnout at the Williams Village Field, as the program welcomed back over 30 former-players and their families to CU. It was a great scene that saw a game with an array of show-off behind-the-back passes, a player in a banana suit, and a surprising number of big hits. It was also a game that the alumni probably enjoyed more than the current Buffs as they consistently held the lead, reaching 8-3 at one point!
As the game wore on, however, the alums' legs began to slow down a bit and the Buffs made a valiant comeback attempt with a flurry of late second-half goals. The effort fell just short in the end, and the alumni team took the 2008 game with a 9-8 victory.
Greg Bastis, former Middlebury team captain, recent member of the Denver Outlaws, and a former coach for CU, played brilliantly on attack for the Alumni. While former All-Americans, Chris Bok, Scott Cadiz, and Jon Atwood displayed their on-going offensive talents. Former 4-time MCLA All-American, Chris Bluse, returned to the field. Though playing sparingly this weekend, Bluse plays with the Chicago Machine.
But this day was all about enjoying the company of friends and others who value their memories at CU. “We love it when these guys come back. So many of them are good friends,” says Buffaloes Goalie Kevin Moriarty. “It says a lot about the program when so many people come back to play this game.”
There was a collection of CU Lacrosse apparel available during the day and after the game a silent auction was held. The local restaurant The Sink catered the event. Special thanks to all alumni, including Matt Plitnick, for their continued, unparalleled support.
