Buffs Send #14 Texas A&M Packing By Scott Cunningham; Public Relations, CU Lacrosse Boulder, CO (March 8, 2009) After a season to forget in 2008, it looks like the Colorado Buffaloes are once again ready to prove that they are one of the top teams in the nation. The Buffs (3-0, #8 ranked by MCLA The Lax Mag) saw contributions from
every position in their 2nd victory over a ranked team this season and
dismantled the Texas A&M Aggies (6-5, #14 ranked by CollegeLax.us)
17-4 at Kittredge Field.
Though it’s probably safe to say that the Aggies will drop from the
rankings when the next polls arrive, it would have taken a massive
effort from anyone to slow down Colorado on Sunday. CU scored twice in
the opening two minutes and never looked back, getting scores from 12
different players including goalie Kevin Moriarty (yes, you read that
correctly).Twenty seconds after his second quarter goal, Moriaty (Seton Hall Prep/Chatham, NJ) followed with an assist on an Alex Mical (Melno School/Melno Park, CA) score in a first half that would have been flawless for Colorado had it not been for one defensive breakdown nine minutes into the first quarter. That would lead to A&M’s only goal of the half, with CU leading 7-1 at the end of two quarters.
The Buffs wasted no time picking up in the second half where they left off, as Joel Packer (The Stevenson School/Monterey, CA) scored 35 seconds into what would be a six-goal third quarter for CU.
Colorado played hard to the final whistle and capped the game with four more goals in the final period. Final Score: CU 17, A&M 4
Since losing to Colorado College in the season opening scrimmage, the Colorado faithful have seen the Buffs improve in each of their five successive matches, and everything sure clicked on Sunday. This Tuesday CU will try to build on their performance against the Aggies when they face the Florida Gators (4-2, #12 ranked by MCLA The Lax Mag) at 6pm at Kittredge Field.
Game Notes: CU’s 12 goal-scorers were: Tyler Snyder (2), Josh Albrecht (2), Darren Hulick (2), Ben Weisz (2), Mike Emerson (1), Kevin Moriarty (1), Alex Mical (1), AJ Blackburn (1), Robert Ogez (1), Colin Rosenblum (2), Kyle Driver (1), Steven Keyes (1).
