Mike Ryder- Head Coach

Coach Ryder, is originally from Port Washington, New York on Long Island where played under Ken Case at Schreiber High School. Following high school, Ryder played 3 years under the coaching of NCAA's All-Time Wins leader Jim Berkman at Salisbury University. He then became a Player/Defensive coach for the University’s 2007/2008 NCLL Semifinalist Club team. Ryder started his coaching early in his career by coaching and directing youth programs back in Long Island and in 2008 became Head Coach of the Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse team at Wicomico High School in Salisbury. Ryder graduated Salisbury with a degree in Secondary-Education(History) and Social Studies. After relocating to Boulder, Colorado, Ryder became the Varsity Defensive Coordinator and JV Head Coach at Boulder High School in 2009. Currently Ryder is a starter for the Colorado Sabertooth indoor lacrosse team, who recently placed 2nd at the 2009 Freedom Cup to Team USA.  Ryder began the 2010 season as the Buffs Defensive Coordinator and was hired mid-season to become the new Head Coach for the Colorado Buffaloes. Michael is also currently a director for Colorado Lacrosse LLC, and works at a local Boulder restaurant while persuing a career in education.


Taylor Short-
Co-Head Coach

Coach Short, has been involved in the lacrosse world since grade school.  He attended Ridgefield High School in Connecticut as a defensman under the tenure of Coach RJ Rossi.  He then continued his career at Salisbury University in Maryland, where after being side lined with an ankle injury, continued to spread his love of the game by teaching local youth programs.  Short then graduated with High Honors in in Finance from Salisbury and has since relocated to Colorado to pursue a career in finance, and at the same time contribute to the lacrosse growth around the state.  Taylor currently plays post-collegiate lacrosse and organized the Top Shelf Lacrosse team who were the 2009 Rumble Randall's tournament champions. Taylor now serves as Co-Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator to the Buffs.

 

 


 
Cory Smith- Assistant Coach
 
Coach Smith has joined the Buffs coaching staff for 2011, with over twenty years experience living the game of lacrosse.  Originally from Forest Hill, Maryland, he played at C. Milton Wright High School from 1992 to 1995, then moved on to a collegiate career at Salisbury University in Maryland.  As a four year defensive midfielder, he helped the Seagulls to capture their third of now eight national championships in 1999.  He received a B.S. from Salisbury in Exercise Physiology, then went on to a successful career in Personal Training at one of the country’s most established health clubs in Bel Air, MD.  As the Director of Personal Training, he’s had the opportunity to educate countless developing trainers, and work with a vast variety of Division I & professional athletes. He spent three seasons coaching lacrosse at his high school alma mater, then in 2008 moved to Boulder, CO where he became involved in the Icon Youth Lacrosse program.  He now works at Everon IT Services in Broomfield as a Network Engineer, and continues to work one-on-one with some of the area’s upcoming young athletes.  Cory will be joining the CU program as the Buffs Strength & Conditioning and midfielders coach.
